QUEENS — A section of Astoria, known for its numerous cultural venues and the famed Kaufman Astoria Studios, will be named a new arts district on Friday — the first such district in the borough — according to published reports.
The Kaufman Arts District will stretch from Steinway Street to 31st Street and from 34th Avenue to 37th Avenue, according to The New York Times.
The district will be named after the Kaufman Astoria Studios, a historic movie studio, where films like “Goodfellas” and “Hair” were made. Last year, the studio opened the first and only outdoor working stage in the city.
